Boys Basketball Wins District Championship Title; Advance to Regional Quarterfinal

Saint Andrew’s basketball blitzes St. John Paul II for district championship

by Marc Berman (Special to the Post):

BOCA RATON — It was the “The Battle of Boca" Friday night on Jog Road with a standing-room-only crowd packed inside Saint Andrew's gymnasium.

But it wasn’t much of a battle. Saint Andrew’s blitzed its neighbor, St. John Paul II, with a 29-point barrage in the 8-minute first quarter and romped to a noisy 80-63 rout to win the District 13-3A championship.

The raucous home crowd was chanting stuff all night — as relentless as its team, which built a 29-15 lead after one quarter on nearly flawless shooting. The Scots were 6-of-8 from 3 in the first half.

The Scots will now face the #1 seed, Riviera Prep, in the FHSAA Regional Quarterfinals on Thursday, February 16 away at Riviera Prep (Miami).
